Because we believe money can be an extremely positive force in our clients' lives, we at Abacus have created and refined a wealth management process unique in our industry. Its uniqueness stems from our inquiry into our clients' long-held dreams, beliefs about money, and most important personal and financial goals (more than just "when do you want to retire"). We believe that financial advice given without the benefit of this information is extremely limited and lacking in the ability to truly transform the quality of one's life.

We begin with the Personal Goals Discovery, a one-to-two hour meeting in which we find out the goals and dreams that should be central to all our financial advice. Often, the goals that a client came into the meeting with end up being augmented or completely changed. For example, a client who came in to find out if they could retire at age 60 left the Personal Goals Discovery having realized that they really want a career change much earlier than that, but would be willing to work part-time well past 60 in the right circumstances.

We then collect all the nuts and bolts financial data that we need either through a written questionnaire or a face-to-face interview, at our client's option. This we call the Financial Data Inventory.

By combining the results of the Personal Goals Discovery and the Financial Data Inventory, we are able to do a comprehensive financial analysis to outline which goals are achievable and under what financial circumstances. We often have several potential scenarios for the client to consider. It is only after the presentation of this analysis - called the Enough for Life Report, that we begin to make specific financial and portfolio recommendations.
